Awana Cubbies is a 2-year weekly club program for preschoolers in the
two years prior to Kindergarten. Three-year olds must be 3 by Sept. 1
to be in Cubbies. Our purpose is to help your child take their
first little step on a lifelong journey of knowing God. In the
Bible, parents are instructed to teach their children about God's word,
little by little, day by day. The Cubbies program is designed to
help parents in this critical role.
At GFBC, our Cubbies club is limited to 25 children, due to room space. Parents must register their child and pay the applicable fees. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and a waiting list is available. Every Cubbie, returning or new, begins in the Bear Hug Brochure. It has two "Bear Hugs" (A & B) to complete, and some basic information for parents about the Cubbies Program. After completing the Bear Hug Brochure, Cubbies begin working in their Hopper or Jumper Handbook, and new Cubbies will receive their vests.
Our time at Cubbies Club is divided into 7
sections:
Parents, the teaching begins at home
Each week, parents help their Cubbie complete the scheduled Bear Hug
by reading the stories in that section, and then teaching the verse
through repeating it a few times and explaining what the verse
means. Include the reference when you say the verse. Talk about how
it relates to their life. At Cubbies Club, they will recite
the verse to their leader, and every part of the evening centers
around the truths that you have All Cubbies progress through their books at the same pace. The required pace for finishing the Cubbies book is one Bear Hug per week. The "Under the Apple Tree" sections are not required for finishing the book, and are meant to be a fun extra activity and review of previous verses. As your child progresses through their book, they will receive patch awards. They will receive a trail patch, 4 lamb patches, and 4 elephant patches. Patches will be placed in the envelope provided in the front of your child's book. Placement of the patches is shown in the back of the Hopper or Jumper Handbook. The patches are small and easily lost, so please attach them to your child's vest as soon as possible - replacement patches cost $2.00 each.
We have one special event during the year - our Jesus Loves Me Party! It is held on February 11, 2011 this club year. The party is for the whole family, not just your Cubbie. We have a simple and kid-friendly dinner, and then enjoy an evening of songs, games and valentine-themed crafts and snacks.
